Everyone gets down once and a while and needs a sounding board. However, if all you ever hear from that person is negative, then maybe you need to re-evaluate the relationship. Sometimes all we need to do is point out that we desire to be more positive to the negative mindset. If it brings change then great. If not we can move on.

I won’t go into every detail of a relationship I had back in the 70’s but I was dragged down to the lowest a person could feel. I am a better person and I fought to be better.
